Metal roof on

My roofer installed the green metal roof and chimney pipe last Friday.

  1. Hey Dave! Not sure if my last comment went through or not...I have a cabin very similar to yours and I also have the very same woodstove! I would really like to hear some input as to how it heats the place...I chose a small one because I didn't want to run us out, but not sure if it's big enough to heat the place. Our square footage is very comparable and I have a partial loft as well. I hope to hear from ya!

  2. Hi Brian, Sorry I missed your message; I don't get many comments here! I have not fired up the woodstove yet; probably won't until September. I think the VC Aspen will be fine for this size cabin; I expect I will need to open a window at times to get rid of excess heat. It will be a year until I get the cabin fully insulated, so until then, I'll be losing a lot of heat.
Are you familiar with the forum at Country Plans? There is a lot of great info and helpful people there. This is a link to a guy with a 14x24 cabin who has the same stove.

In one of his other posts he talks about using the stove.
I'll keep you posted. Thanks for reading.

  5. I love the metal roof for many reasons. The elements are really no match for the metal, and it will last much longer than a traditional roof. It also holds in the heat on cold days so that your energy consumption is not through the roof. Less repairs from damage means more money in your pocket that you can spend elsewhere.
